New York!

Hello there!
I'm now back in Switzerland again after 5 amazing days in the city that never sleeps, New York!
Not only is New York "the city that never sleeps", but also the only city I have visited so far where I feel I could never EVER get bored. The possibilities are endless!!!

5 days were not enough for me.... I want more!!!! There were so many things that we didn't have time to do. There were also a lot of things that we did do (of course) and from this I will share a few recommendations besides the obvious, most touristy ones ;)

Shopping at Century 21
If you are lucky, you can find really good bargains on designer wear here! It's a little messy, so you need to be patient to be a successful shopper in this store.... I found some really great treasures and when I go back to NY, I will surely also spend another half day in this store ;)

Stand-up comedy at Comedy cellar
I was recommended to go here by a friend and I must say, it was absolutely hilarious!!!
Can't remember the last time I laughed this much =)

Dinner at Paesanos in Little Italy
This little cosy restaurant served me the best Pasta I've ever had!! "Lobster tail fra Diavolo" with lobster-tail (quite obviously ;)), shrimps, clams and mussels in an absolutely delicious tomato-sauce over linguini!
AND the staff was really really service-minded and nice! In fact, this place was so good that we had dinner there twice........ He he!

Cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine
Mmmmmm..........this little bakery on 126
Rivington street serves little pieces of heaven!!
We tried 5 different flavours. My favourite was Red velvet - Yummie!
I found this little place on the internet before I even left as number 1 on "Best cupcakes in New York".

Pinkberry
Again, this was recommended to me by a friend..... Pinkberry has the most amazing frozen yogurts with a wide range of delicious toppings! A great choice when you feel a little keen on something sweet, that brings as much pleasure as a normal ice cream or chocolate, but is so much better for you from a health point of view ;)

It was fabulous 5 days that I will never forget!!!
....and just like the classic t-shirt, I really must say:

I New York

Oh how I miss my morning coffee's at Starbucks......mmmmmm..... Grande soy caramel macchiato =p
I also already miss walking up and down on Broadway every day!
I will go back there soon.... I simply have to!

Hope you all had an amazing weekend and hope to see you here again soon....

Linda - Lost in Switzerland

Start spreading the news.....

I'm not leaving today, but in just one weeks time, I will be in the city that never sleeps:
NEW YORK!!!

This will be my first time and I'm soooooo excited!!! It is really strange, but sometimes I wait way too long to do the things I'm dreaming about doing and instead go for the second best option.... Thankfully, I have finally come to my senses and booked this trip, or adventure if you will, and would like to ask your opinion on:

What is the one thing you just can't miss while in New york??

Hoping for some nice tips as I'm sure many of you have been there before or maybe even live there.

Will surely give you a full report when I'm back in Switzerland again....

Oh! ...and I also wanted to tell you that you now have the possibility to follow this blog with Facebook pages:

Hope to see you all there!

I wish...I wish...

I wish spring was here!!
I have loved this winter and all its snowy glory - but now all I can think of is spring......
I wish the life hiding under the snow-covered grounds would finally reveal itself!
There is something special about spring and I love the way it represents new beginnings, how it makes the world bloom again and how it ignites that little flame in peoples hearts that makes them smile for no appearant reason!!

....so spring, if you are listening - Pleeeeeaaaase come out??
I don't know about the rest of you, but I, for sure, need you!!

"O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?!"
Percy Bysshe Shelley

“Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"”
Robin Williams

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.”
Margaret Atwood

"The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring."
Bern Williams

"First a howling blizzard woke us,
Then the rain came down to soak us,
And now before the eye can focus -
Crocus."
Lilja Rogers

“Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.”
Doug Larson

"In springtime, love is carried on the breeze.
Watch out for flying passion or kisses whizzing by your head."
Emma Racine deFleur

Awake, thou wintry earth -
Fling off thy sadness!
Fair vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your ancient gladness!
Thomas Blackburn
"An Easter Hymn"

I hope you are all feeling great!!
The only thing left for me to say (write) in this post is just like E. Marshall in "Spring Thought":
"Out with the cold, in with the WOO!!"

Movie recommendation - Whip it

Whip it (2009)
4/5

"Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) has grown unhappy with the apparent small-town Texas life of Friday night football and beauty pageant competition, the football championed by her father Earl (Daniel Stern) and the pageants by her mother Brooke (Marcia Gay Harden). She commiserates with her best friend Pash (Alia Shawkat) at their waitressing jobs.

Pash has a plan to get out: she is applying to Ivy League schools. Bliss just wants to get out and needs a plan and a calling. She finds it during a shopping trip to Austin, Texas where she picks up a flyer for a Roller Derby event, schemes to attend, gets invited to try out and becomes Babe Ruthless, her alter-ego roller derby character.

She makes the team, lies about her age, works hard to succeed, experiences her first love with the young lead singer of an Indie rock band, gets disappointed in love, bonds with her new family of roller derby girls, fights with her mother to escape the beauty pageant and live her new dream as roller derby star. She manages to reconcile all of this, impress and win over her parents and friends, and charts an ambiguous goal to move to Austin, continue with Roller Derby, and live her new life."

I watched this movie the other day, without any expectations what-so-ever, finding again that this is usually the best condition for watching movies.

In all honesty, I picked it as I was curious to find out whether directing would also go on the list of Drew Barrymore's talents and also because it stars Ellen Page (Juno), who I find incredibly talented. None of these were disappointments, on the contrary!

Whip it is a truly sweet-spirited and fun story about adolescence, following your dreams and of course about love.

It struck me as a modern-day version of my all-time favourite 80's movie, "Girls just wanna have fun" - but it somehow more sophisticated, mostly thanks to the acting-skills of Ellen Page.
I loved watching this in my 30's! I can't even imagine how much more I would have loved it watching this at the age of 15 ;)

"Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, a coming-of-age tale fused with an underdog sports story that hits all the expected developments with unexpected personality and grace."
